I'd like to know when my american visa will be checked out.... here in brazil before getting on the plane or when I get off of the plane when I get to the US? Should I be scared of both?
AND...... how much money should I take with me when I go.... is 1000 dollars okay or maybe 1500?? I'll stay there for 15 days if I'm allowed in the country..... hehe
please help! |

Well, ... um ...
... where did you (or your "friend") get the visa?

I got the visa at the consulate but I've heard that a visa is not a guarantee of an entry..... I do even know someone who was sent back once he got off of the plane in the US.... I was just wondering about the procedures.... it'd be great if you could help, thanks!

OK, if you say so.
You will not be allowed to board the airplane in Brasil without a VALID visa. Your passport & visa will be checked at the check-in counter and once again at the jetway ramp to the plane (by airline personel) and possibly checked once by Brazilian PF at the immigration desk. That's three (3) checks all together.
Once you arrive at your port of entry in the US, it is there that you would actually be granted permission to enter the US by an Immigration official . If entry is denied you will be placed on the next return flight to Brasil, which in most cases is some 12 to 18 hours later.
Is $1,000~1,500 enough money? That works out to $67~$100 a day. Thus it depends on where you're staying (which city, hotel) and eating (fast food or high end restaurant) and how you intend to spend your time (shopping, partying). It could be enough, but take a credit card or international ATM card with you to be on the safe side.
You may also need to demonstrate to the Immigration official that you have the available funds to finance your 15 day stay. A credit card/ATM card would be most helpful in this situation. _________________ "Brasil is not a country for 'pussies'. I'm actually gonna stay at a friend's house in a small town..... she'll provide food and shelter while I'm there..... what should I take with me to prove I'll stay with her if they ask me? We won't go out so much either.... all I wanna do is spend some time there with her to do normal stuff, meet her family, enjoy the season.... and see snow
I've already registered the address where I'll be staying at(her address) with the airlines.... as well as my passport number and all that stuff.... Any tips on that kinda thing?
ThanKs! |

Dustin,
A letter will not be of any use. Chances are if your friend can not demonstrate that he/she has enough money to support his/herself while in the US, the application for a tourist visa will be denied. _________________ "Brasil is not a country for 'pussies'.
