I was recently informed during a conversation about visa status that being from M.G. puts an additional hurtle in the process because many people from that state leave and never return. How do they keep track of this and why is it so (or is it not so)? _________________

Hi,
there is a "famous" city in Minas Gerais, called Governador Valadares. Everyone (who´s still liveing there) has at least one friend or relative that is in the US. Of course most of them illegal. Minas is probably the state with the most illegal imigrants in the US.
That´s why the planes wich return illegal imigrants from US prisons to Brazil, arrive in Belo Horizonte (capital of MG).
Many people from Governador Valadares don´t even get a passport, so they visit friends or relatives in other cities and states and apply for a passport there. _________________ MINEIRO ALEMÃO

A wave of immigrants went to the US and estab. a BR community around Boston in the 60s.
Now, there is a well established network of smugglers who, supposedly, advertise their services by going door to door...
Other than that, it is not a poor state like frex Alagoas... |

I've read stuff since then saying that it's not as bad as it used to be if you were an MG resident. But since I don't remember where I saw it, or even if that's what the article did say, I can't be certain.
The boy did mention that whatever consulate covers MG has been giving out more visitor visas, but ehh... I'm still a little hesitant. _________________ If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay home.

But from October, 23rd on it will be even more dificult to get illegal to the US, because Mexico will require visas from Brazilians again!
